On the morning of October 19th, the strategic seminar of MBA (EMBA) high-quality development in SEU was successfully held online. Insiders present in the meeting were: Professor Zhao Shuming, the Vice Chairman of the Business Administration Education Supervisory Committee of the Education Department and the Honorary President of Nanjing University Business School, Professor Wang Ping, the Office Manager of the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee Secretariat and the Vice Office Manager of the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center Chinese Advanced Management Education Accreditation Secretariat, Professor Liu Hong, a member of the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee and the former Party Secretary of Nanjing University Business School, Professor Xie Xiaoyun, a member of the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee and Vice Dean of the School of Management at Zhejiang University, Professor Li Dong, a member of the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee and the Dean of the School of Economics and Management Business Management Department of SEU, Professor Fei Qingguo, the Minister of the Division of University Development Planning and Discipline Construction, Professor Huang Yaji, the Office Manager of the Graduate Degree Office, Professor Yuan Jianhong, the Party Secretary of the School of Economics and Management, and Professor Lv Hongjiang, the Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management attended this meeting.
Secretary Yuan Jianhong first gave a welcoming speech. She expressed a warm welcome to the presence of the experts and leaders on behalf of all the teachers and students of the School of Economics and Management, and gave her gratitude for the care and support the experts had long been giving to the development of MBA (EMBA) of our school. Secretary Yuan briefly introduced the basic situation of the School of Economics and Management, stated the importance of the MBA (EMBA) educational project construction to the school’s development, and hoped the experts may give instructions to our school’s high-quality MBA (EMBA) development.
Professor Zhao Shuming, the head of the seminar’s expert group, gave a speech on behalf of all the attending experts. Professor Zhao pointed out that China’s MBA education development has been through 30 years. Now, MBA education was entering a development period that required enhancing characteristics, stressing branding, and pursuing high quality, which put great importance on this seminar in such times. Professor Zhao gave his wish that all attending experts may speak as they will, seek guidance for the high-quality MBA (EMBA) development of SEU, and expect to find a new direction for the high-quality MBA (EMBA) development of SEU.
Vice Dean Lv Hongjiang gave theme reports to the attendees. She briefly introduced the advantages, achievements, disadvantages, and challenges of SEU’s MBA (EMBA) education development. She systematically stated the strategic blueprint of the high-quality MBA (EMBA) development of SEU through framework designs including duty and strategy, innovation and character, cultivation quality, organization and administration, resource and arrangement, and also multi-platform and social contribution, putting forward a special development strategy of “an MBA (EMBA) educational cultivation system which suit the management innovational need of the new era and build a ‘triple-blending’ mode and the PDCA cycle; by depending on information, electronics, AI and other engineering majors in SEU with a strong basis, we may put forth effort in cultivating management talents, business leaders and pioneers with SEU gene and digital intelligence with scientific innovation features”.
Manager Wang Ping made a directorial speech after listening to the report. Manager Wang pointed out that the MBA (EMBA) education should be led by educational spirits, continuously optimizing the cultivational system, and exploring new school-running modes. She gave reasonable advice on deepening the integration of production and education, strengthening the characteristics innovation, paying attention to case development, and strengthening the brand construction. Manager Wang expressed full approval of the SEU MBA (EMBA) project’s achievements, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages alike. She also gave directions for further advancement, clearing our minds of future works, and steadied the determination of inner high-quality development.
During the discussion and exchange session, three members of the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee affirmed the characteristics, innovation, and overall framework of our MBA (EMBA) education strategic planning, and put forward ardent expectations. At the same time, they expressed their insights on the high-quality development of our school’s MBA (EMBA). From the perspective of improving the governance system, Professor Xie Xiaoyun discussed establishing class remuneration standards, improving teaching facilities, and incentivizing administrative personnel. Professor Liu Hong pointed out the importance of accelerating the training of young teachers from the perspective of improving the quality of talent training and suggested that high-level international and domestic certification be the starting point to help high-quality development. As a witness to Southeast University's MBA (EMBA) development, Professor Li Dong put forward suggestions on rationalizing the management system, improving the incentive mechanism, focusing on connotation development, and improving the training quality.
As the leader of the expert group, Professor Zhao Shuming summarized the discussion and exchange session. Professor Zhao pointed out that the strategic concept of high-quality development of Southeast University's MBA (EMBA) education is in line with the current guiding ideology of the Ministry of Education on the cultivation of graduate students majoring in business administration, with clear ideas, clear paths, and strong innovation. The system is integrated from the perspective of education training mode, organizational and administrative capacity, resource allocation, social forces, and platforms of all parties, focusing on the current and long-term situation, which is forward-looking. He suggested that further efforts should be made in teaching reform to better refine and highlight the cultivation characteristics of Southeast University's MBA (EMBA) education.
Finally, Manager Huang Yaji summarized the meeting. Manager Huang, on behalf of the Graduate School, first expressed his gratitude to all the experts for attending the meeting despite their busy schedules. He said that MBA was the first professional degree education project of our school, which played an important role in the development of professional degree education in our school. It was rated A- in the first national professional degree level evaluation published in 2018. The achievement cannot be done without the care and support of experts from the MBA Education Committee. At this seminar, various experts put forward many constructive suggestions, which pointed out the direction for the high-quality development of our MBA (EMBA) education. Director Huang said that the Graduate School, together with the School of Economics and Management and relevant functional departments, will deeply understand, attach great importance to, coordinate and solve relevant problems, escort the implementation of sustainable development of MBA (EMBA) education, and help to build a "double first-class" SEU.
This seminar was held during the period of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The fifth chapter of the report made by President Xi Jinping stated the strategy plan of “developing the country through science and education, reinvigorating China through human resources”, pointing out that education, technology, and human resources were the basic and strategic support of building a modern socialist country, illuminating the historic position, forward goal and future direction for high-class education to achieve leapfrog development in China’s modernizing progress. This is both a call to fight and a clarion horn to advance.
Under this background, this seminar not only clarified the guidance of Southeast University's MBA (EMBA) education development direction but also included the specific work deployment of project promotion, which is of great significance to the further development of Southeast University's MBA (EMBA) education. In the new era and new journey, under the guidance of the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, our school will adhere to the founding of morality, focus on high-end talent training, adhere to integrity and innovation, work hard, firmly promote the high-quality development strategy of MBA (EMBA) education, and contribute SEU’s MBA (EMBA) power to the Chinese path to modernization construction and the realization of sustainable economic and social development.
