In the morning of Nov. 13th, the School of Economics and Management actively responded to the new round of education ideology discussion on the theme of “The Mission of SEU to Establish Moral and Educate People and the Action of SEU to Put Students in the First Place” and held an online seminar on “Talent Cultivation and Discipline Construction in the Context of Interdiscipline”. The seminar invited Professor Song Jie, Vice Dean of the School of Engineering, Peking University, Professor Yang Yi, Vice Dean of the School of Management, Zhejiang University, Professor Li Jianbin, Vice Dean of the School of Management, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Chen Caihua, Vice Dean of School of Engineering Management, Nanjing University. The guests introduced their experiences on talent cultivation and discipline construction in the context of discipline intersection and had in-depth discussions and exchanges with teachers of our school. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Xue Weili. Party Secretary Yuan Jianhong, Vice Party Secretary He Yi, Vice Dean Zhang Yulin, Lv Hongjiang, Pu Zhengning, and faculty members of the School of Economics and Management participated in the whole seminar.
Secretary Yuan Jianhong firstly welcomed all the guests and faculty members of the school who attended the seminar, and introduced to them the background of this great discussion on educational ideas held by Southeast University, the achievements of the School of Economics and Management in recent years in terms of talent training, scientific research output and discipline construction, as well as the school’s participation in the construction of Southeast University’s Institute of Digital Economy and Technological Innovation this year and its leading declaration of the first-class interdisciplinary doctoral program in digital economy and management. Secretary Yuan also put forward some thoughts on the future of the school in terms of student employment, talent training, and discipline construction. We hope that through the exchange of experiences in this seminar, all the faculty and students can fully learn from the experience of sister universities, unify their thoughts and actions, actively practice the action of “classes are the most important, students are the first priority”, and lay a solid foundation for the reform of the training system of leading talents in the school.
In the experience-sharing stage, Vice Dean Song Jie discussed in detail the attempts and efforts made by the School of Engineering of Peking University in working on the path and mode of innovative talents cultivation and shared the international education and talent system of Peking University’s engineering construction, as well as the way to achieve international convergence. Vice Dean Yang Yi talked about the valuable experience of Zhejiang University in digital social science and the School of Management of Zhejiang University in digital innovation and management cross-disciplinary construction, laboratory system construction, and think tank platform construction around the cultivation of composite and cross-cutting talents. Vice Dean Li Jianbin introduced in detail how to guide the development of the discipline from the school level and gradually build international influence from the perspective of student training and teaching and research team construction in the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Vice Dean Chen Caihua shared the discipline construction goals and ideas of the School of Engineering Management of Nanjing University, which is in line with the national double first-class construction and serves the major needs of Jiangsu Province and the country, and introduced the specific measures of the school in cultivating talents under cross-fertilization, such as creating dual-degree programs and setting up experimental finance classes jointly with computer science.
In the interactive exchange session, the participating teachers of the School of Economics and Management enthusiastically participated and put forward their thoughts on the “problems and shortcomings” of the school from the aspects of postgraduate training quality improvement, discipline construction, team building, etc., focusing on the theme of education ideology of “Establishing moral and educating people, Putting students in the first place”. They also had an in-depth exchange with the guests on the “supply and path” to solve the problems and fully exchanged views on the “direction and vision” of the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University in terms of talent training and discipline construction. This seminar promotes the work of the School of Economics and Management’s educational ideology discussion, which is not only a review and summary of the current stage of the school’s talent training and discipline construction work, but also helps to firm up the goals, identify the problems, condense the consensus, and open the next stage of the school’s specific work layout and preparation, helping the school to deepen the work of talent training and discipline construction.
